Just Me and My life
Summary!
In chapters 5 & 6, Johnny and Ponyboy hide out in the church. Finally, Dallas, who is the only one that knows where Ponyboy and Johnny are, comes to see them. Dallas drives the boys to a Dairy Queen and buys them some food. When they go back to the church, they find that it is on fire. There are some kids who are inside it, so Ponyboy and Johnny run inside and get them out. Dallas pulls them out of a window before the roof collapses. All three end up in the hospital.
The Word of the Chapter
The word of the chapter is fear. The definition of fear is: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Fear is also defined as: concern or anxiety; solicitude: a fear for someone’s safety. I got these defintions from dictionary.reference.com
Fear is displayed by Ponyboy when he wakes up and discovers that Johnny is nowhere to be found. Fear is also displayed when Ponyboy and Johnny are in the church and don’t want to go outside because someone might see them. Another fear example I can think of is when Dally gave the letter from Sodapop to Ponyboy. In that letter, Sodapop expresses his fear for Ponyboy’s safety.
Choosing “The Word of the Chapter” for this chapter was hard because the chapters 5 & 6 also display survival and heroisim.
