Summary

Yes it is summary time once again. Sigh. Well here it goes: In chapters 9 & 10 Ponyboy and his gang and his brother and most of the greasers in their neiborhood are going to have a no weapons rumble (fist fight) in an empty lot. Dally and Johnny are still in the hospital, so they won’t be able to come. Darry and one of his former friends trade blows and start off the rumble. All of a sudden Dally shows up. Ponyboy helps him out because Dally’s burnt arm is not fully healed yet. The Socs finally run, and Dally drags Ponyboy up and off to the hospital to see Johnny. After a short conversation there, Johnny dies. Dally is really sad and mad that Johnny has done this and runs out of the hospital. He robs a grocery store, and pulls a gun on the police-not loaded-but the police shoot him anyway. Dally dies.

Word of the chapter

Yes it’s that time again. The word of the chapter (drum roll please) is survival! Yes I know, there is not very much survival in 2 chapters in which 2 people die, but I still see some. For example, everyone survived the rumble. Anyway, the definition of survival is to remain alive after the death of someone, the cessation of something, or the occurrence of some event; continue to live.

OK, some other survival-ness I found is that Ponyboy survived after he fainted. He fainted right after Dally died. He got a concussion when he got kicked in the head at the rumble, and it didn’t help matters. According to the definition I found, I can put down that everyone survived after Johnny and Dally died. That’s all I can think of. If you can think of some more, please comment and tell me so.
