Last Novel Blog Post

Yes, Is it not sad? This is my last post on my novel. Anyway, here is my summary.

Summary

Here it goes: Ponyboy had to stay in bed for a whole week after he blacked out. While he was in bed, Randy came over to visit. Remember that Randy was Bob’s best friend. Randy reminds Ponyboy about the court hearing they have to go to over Johnny killing Bob. When they go, everything is ok. The judge asks Ponyboy about how he likes living with Darry, how much he likes school, and what grades he gets. In the end, Ponyboy is acquitted. After that everything went back to normal, except that Ponyboy kept bumping into things, and losing things. One day he walked home in his socks and did not notice until Steve told him. Another thing, Ponyboy doesn’t eat near as much as he did before. Since Pony missed that week of school, his English teacher wanted him to come up with a good composition. If he did that, the teacher would pass him with a C grade. The theme had to be on his own ideas and experiences. So he started to write this book.

The Last Word of the Chapters!

Another sad moment, the very last word of the the chapters is here. This time it is none other than friendship! Yes, I know that I have already done friendship before, but Mr. Fisher gave us four words for chapters 5-12. For the first three chapter groups (5&6, 7&8, 9&10) if you used a word it could not be used again. But for the chapter 11&12 post you can use any word you want over again. Anyway, the definition of frienship once again is: the state of being a friend; association as friends: to value a person’s friendship.

I couldn’t find alot of friendship-ness hanging around, but the examples I found are: When Darry called Ponyboy “little buddy” at the end of chapter 11. This is special because only Sodapop called Pony “little buddy” before then. Another example I found is when they went to the hearing; they all stuck together. The last example of friendship I found is after Sodapop runs out of the house. When Ponyboy catches him, they sort everything out like true friends should.

Summary

Yes it is summary time once again. Sigh. Well here it goes: In chapters 9 & 10 Ponyboy and his gang and his brother and most of the greasers in their neiborhood are going to have a no weapons rumble (fist fight) in an empty lot. Dally and Johnny are still in the hospital, so they won’t be able to come. Darry and one of his former friends trade blows and start off the rumble. All of a sudden Dally shows up. Ponyboy helps him out because Dally’s burnt arm is not fully healed yet. The Socs finally run, and Dally drags Ponyboy up and off to the hospital to see Johnny. After a short conversation there, Johnny dies. Dally is really sad and mad that Johnny has done this and runs out of the hospital. He robs a grocery store, and pulls a gun on the police-not loaded-but the police shoot him anyway. Dally dies.

Word of the chapter

Yes it’s that time again. The word of the chapter (drum roll please) is survival! Yes I know, there is not very much survival in 2 chapters in which 2 people die, but I still see some. For example, everyone survived the rumble. Anyway, the definition of survival is to remain alive after the death of someone, the cessation of something, or the occurrence of some event; continue to live.

OK, some other survival-ness I found is that Ponyboy survived after he fainted. He fainted right after Dally died. He got a concussion when he got kicked in the head at the rumble, and it didn’t help matters. According to the definition I found, I can put down that everyone survived after Johnny and Dally died. That’s all I can think of. If you can think of some more, please comment and tell me so. :)

Summary

Today’s summary is going to be quick. So, you know that Johnny and Dally are in the hospital. Johnny is suffering from severe shock and third-degree burns. He also had a broken back, and can’t feel anything below his waist. Dally only had one arm that was badly burned. He would be okay in a couple of days. Ponyboy then read a newspaper in which the headlines where  ”JUVENILE DELINQUENTS TURN HEROES” The juvenile delinquents are, of course Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy also talked with Randy, Bob’s best friend, and Cherry.

   Word of the Chapter

The word of the chapter is friendship. The definition of friendship is: the state of being a friend; association as friends: to value a person’s friendship.

In chapters 7 & 8 Ponyboy and his brothers have a strong friendship. They show this when they are waiting for the doctor in the hospital. Ponyboy and Robert also have a kind of friendship. They understand each other. It is the same with Ponyboy and Cherry. I now know that Bob was Cherry’s boyfriend. The last ”showing” of friendship I can think of is when Two-Bit and Ponyboy go to see Johnny and Dally in the hospital, and promise to get Johnny Gone with the Wind.

Summary!

In chapters 5 & 6, Johnny and Ponyboy hide out in the church. Finally, Dallas, who is the only one that knows where Ponyboy and Johnny are, comes to see them. Dallas drives the boys to a Dairy Queen and buys them some food. When they go back to the church, they find that it is on fire. There are some kids who are inside it, so Ponyboy and Johnny run inside and get them out. Dallas pulls them out of a window before the roof collapses. All three end up in the hospital.

The Word of the Chapter

The word of the chapter is fear. The definition of fear is: a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. Fear is also defined as: concern or anxiety; solicitude: a fear for someone’s safety. I got these defintions from dictionary.reference.com

Fear is displayed by Ponyboy when he wakes up and discovers that Johnny is nowhere to be found. Fear is also displayed when Ponyboy and Johnny are in the church and don’t want to go outside because someone might see them. Another fear example I can think of is when Dally gave the letter from Sodapop to Ponyboy. In that letter, Sodapop expresses his fear for Ponyboy’s safety.

Choosing “The Word of the Chapter” for this chapter was hard because the chapters 5 & 6 also display survival and heroisim.
